Strictly Come Dancing and The Best of British

Debbie is drying her hair so I have a minute or three to jot down an update. Life has been unbelievably busy and I do mean busy.

The Best of British Variety shows are now drawing to a close with only two more to do. One tonight in Huddersfield and one in Buxton. For the audiences who came it has been a wonderful night out and we have only had one complaint! That came from a man in training to be a priest who thought some of the material was a bit bawdy. Sorry mate. You lot have completely blown your cover and very few people are taking any notice of your opinions especially with regard to anything to do with sexuality.

The truth is that the audiences have been wrapped in a warm glow as Dana sang her songs and they have laughed and clapped along at Syd Little, The Grumbleweeds, The Krankies and me. I have said it before and I'll say it again... there's nothing so enjoyable as watching long time professionals on a stage doing what they do so well.

Most afternoons after we have travelled to the next town Ola Jordan has turned up and put me through my paces for Strictly Come Dancing. So far, as I have never danced before, she has been making me do the opening dance over and over and over and over again. Believe me, I need that kind of discipline. I have just realised that we only have four days training left before the show goes live. Today Ola says she is going to start on the next dance.

I am surprised at myself in that the only ache I have is from a stiff neck caused by an air conditioning unit that we couldn't switch off in Rhyl Pavilion's dressing room. I thought I would have muscles yelling at me to give in but so far so good.

Ah, the hair is dry so it looks like we are going off for brunch (should that be bruncheon?) before the dancing begins....

Will you be bringing Ola onto the stage tonight to be introduced in Huddersfield? That would be amazing.

The Krankies can be a bit saucy, you only have to read their autobiography to realize that.Nothing offencive mind. The time they did I.B.M opening night At scarborough, was probably the only time in my life that i have almost pased out through laughing too much. and that was the evening of the twin towers in new york.. A great act.as are all teh acts on teh bill. Shame I'm going to miss out on the tour.

Hi Paul

I believe that last week someone called “think of a card” to you at a service station on the motorway and you responded likewise. The voice came from my Dad, Roger Crosthwaite, who like you ALWAYS carries packs of cards on him!

On another note, I do remember meeting you with my Dad once, way back in 1977 when you were doing a summer season in Bournemouth on the same bill as Val Doonican. Thank you for your hospitality in inviting us into your dressing room after the show – probably the first and only time I will have been in such a place!

Well, good luck in the dancing. I shall be watching…..

Regards

Dave (Crosthwaite)

It still never fails to amaze me how you zoom around the country, hither and thither and thither and hither. May you never slow down [except for the speed cameras!].
